MĀRTIŅŠ UZTICS
I accepted the offer to create a virtual version of the historical walk with the thought - "LOOKS GOOD AND INTERESTING. I WILL DO IT." When working on it for some time, I saw and understood - this job is my CHALLENGE.
I put the pictures together with the texts, looked, thought and answered myself to countless "what", "how" and "why". Then, when it became clear to myself what this huge information material might look like in a virtual environment, one by one, ideas for creating design for a walk also started coming to me. At times, the comparison of text and pictures material was so fascinating that time stood still unnoticed. I noticed that in the old postcards on the streets of Aizpute there are people who posed for the photographer, Varis Sants photographed the same way. Putting these two pictures together, you suddenly realize - there is a special aura in between - that is the history of the town. The old postcards perfectly show what Aizpute and its houses were like at the beginning of the last century and later - in the 1930s. These are signs of the town's economic prosperity. Contemporary photographs of Varis Sants and historical research material of Ivars Silārs tell when, how and what happened to them.
This virtual walk through Aizpute with the opportunity to look at town’s history is a grand collaboration work and I am convinced that it will be an interesting and engaging reading for everyone who has roots in Aizpute.
